Augustibluus Pics & Footage

Andres Roots' 17th appearance at Haapsalu's Augustibluus festival went down a storm - here's a short video clip by Asso Arendi and below are photos by Martin Eessalu. According to Andrus Karnau in the daily Postimees, "Roots plays solo, but creates soundscapes that give the impression of there being more than one musician on stage" - check out the festival review HERE.

Concert Film "Andres Roots at Augustibluus"

Heino Maripuu, who has been tirelessly documenting the Estonian live music scene since the 1970's, has produced a 47-minute selection of concert footage from 2010, 2012, 2017, 2018 and 2021 titled "Andres Roots at Augustibluus". With many diffreent bands and line-ups, Andres Roots has performed at the Haapsalu blues festival 16 times since 2000 (there was no fest in 2020) and for more than a decade, Maripuu has been there to capture his sets at the historical train station. The film includes performances by Bullfrog Brown, Andres Roots Roundabout with special guest Bert Deivert (USA), Tammepõld, Roots & Terep, Ismo Haavisto (FIN) & Andres Roots. Soul Bag Review

The "Tribute to Elmore" live EP with Ismo Haavisto and Matias Partanen has been reviewed by Christophe Mourot in the French Soul Bag magazine: "Five tracks with slide guitar, drums and wild vocals, unamplified harmonica, recorded live at the 2018 Augustibluus festival in Estonia. About time this was released because it's excellent!"

Trip to Finland & Augustibluus Videos

This weekend, Andres Roots will play what look to be his only international gigs this year - on Saturday, August 14th, he'll be doing an open tunings workshop at 4 p.m. and playing an acoustic solo set at 8 p.m. at the Kymi Kantri country & western music festival in Myllykoski, Finland. Tartu-Pärnu Pics & Augustibluus Coming Up!

This Saturday 2 p.m., Andres Roots will perform at the Augustibluus festival in Haapsalu for the 16th time in 21 years - see you at the railway station!

July Gigs & Twoj Blues Review

In July 2021, Andres Roots will be performing solo and acoustic around Estonia, appearing at the Tallinn Art Hall, the Tartu St. John's Church, the Pärnu Yacht Club and the Haapsalu Railway Station. The dates are as follows:

28.7 - Bluusipäevad @ Jahtklubi, Pärnu

31.7 - Augustibluus @ Raudteejaam, Haapsalu

Meanwhile, the Polish blues magazine Twoj Blues has published a review of the "Tribute to Elmore" EP, recorded with the electric trio of Ismo Haavisto, Andres Roots & Matias Partanen at the 2018 Augustibluus festival. 

According to the magazine's Editor-in-Chief Andrzej Matysik, the CD "conveys the richness of Elmore James' legacy" and "the healthy, raw sound takes us to the atmosphere of clubs on Chicago's South Side in the 1960s." Dziękuję bardzo!

Summer Festivals!

First two solo shows announced for the summer of 2021: on July 31st, Andres Roots will play his first-ever solo set at the Augustibluus festival in Haapsalu, Estonia, where he's been a regular since the year 2000, and on August 14th, he'll play his first-ever acoustic set in finland at the Kymi Kantri festival in Myllykoski, preceded by an open tunings workshop.

Tribute to Elmore EP!

A live "Tribute to Elmore" live CD EP by Ismo Haavisto, Andres Roots & Matias Partanen will be released on May 7th - pre-order details (like winning a free T-shirt) can be found HERE! The EP includes five Elmore James classics, recorded live by Heino Maripuu at the Augustibluus festival in Haapsalu, Estonia in 2018 and mastered by Asko-Romé Altsoo, with cover design by Siret Roots and photos by Leif Laaksonen and Lotta Tuominen. This is one of the numbers on the CD...

EP Launch @ Viru Folk + Augustibluus Pics

On Friday, August 10 at 11 p.m. Andres Roots will play a solo show at the Käsmu Church at the Viru Folk Festival - and August 10 is also the digital release date of the new "Drum Break" EP! A *very* limited quantity of hard-copy "Drum Break" CD's - all signed and numbered - will also be available at the show.
