New Single out with Jantso Jokelin!

 

Estonian guitarist Andres Roots and Finnish harpist Jantso Jokelin have just released a duo reworking of the Roots tune "Django" - see Bandcamp link above or YouTube HERE. In 2023, Roots and Jokelin have played a number of duo shows in Finland and Estonia, and on November 19th, Jokelin will appear as Roots' very special guest at the Estonian culture festival Martin Markkinat in Helsinki, Finland for both shows that Roots is set to play there.

Jantso Jokelin is a Finnish harmonica player, guitarist and vocalist who has won the Finnish street music championship with the Ataturk Band and in 2009 came third in the world's biggest harmonica competition in Trossingen, Germany. Jokelin's first solo EP "Silver Lining" was released earlier this year.

Andres Roots is an official Ambassador for the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 - a slide guitarist and a songwriter whose music has received airplay on five continents and whose 2016 LP “Roots Music” remains the only blues album ever to top the sales charts in the Baltics. Later this month, Roots will be heading to the UK for four solo concerts:

Nov. 30 – Honey Bee Blues Club @ The Lescar, Sheffield;
Dec. 1 – Didsbury Baptist Church, Manchester;
Dec. 2 – Leeds Blues Club @ The Cross Keys, Leeds;
Dec. 3 – Sunday Blues Train @ Marsden Mechanics, Marsden.

October Tour With Faarao Pirttikangas!

Get your beards and funny hats ready: October will bring three double bills with Finland's Faarao Pirttikangas: Kultuuriklubi Salong in Tartu on Thursday, October 13th, jazz club Philly Joe's in Tallinn on Friday, October 14th, and the Põlva Cultural Centre café in Põlva on Saturday, October 15th!

New Song from Roots & Red Mouth!

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first studio collaboration, American vocalist Red Mouth and Estonian guitarist Andres Roots have recorded another track long distance – the vocals for "Right Across the Hill" were cut in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and the guitar in Tartu, Estonia.

Speaking of the Roots-penned track, Red Mouth states: "When I was young my friends would get me worked up about political situations. I would get paranoid and take all my newfound knowledge to my dad. He would always relieve my fears with, "Every generation has an Antichrist, son." That optimism is over. It’s an American optimism. There is ALWAYS...one more across the hill."



"That song was written in 2017 and Red Mouth picked it for recording last winter, but then of course 2020 happened," says Andres Roots. "We’re back on track now and there’s more to come – it's not like there's much gigging to be done this winter, so studio work seems like a reasonable alternative."

Roots’ and Red Mouth’s original studio effort "Redecoration Day" was released ahead of Red Mouth's first European tour in 2010 and went to #1 on Estonian national broadcasting's "Eesti Top 7", spending an unprecedented three months in the Top 3. The track later appeared on Roots’ 2010 debut album "Roundabout" and his 2016 compilation LP "Roots Music", which topped Estonia's official albums chart and received a Golden Disc award in 2017.
