Live EP "Rainy Day in Rio"

Here's a 4-track live souvenir from Roihuvuoren Rio in Helsinki, Finland, recorded exactly one month ago: "Rainy Day in Rio"!

It was the last gig of the June mini-tour and the only open air show on that trip, which naturally meant the heatwave was instantly replaced by cold, rain and wind. But the audience was brave, the venue supplied everyone with blankets, and the whole thing ended up being recorded - the wind and the birds, the dogs barking and the kids shouting. And incidentally, of the four tracks that made it onto the EP, two feature a Boney Toes Stompbox, made from Rimu and Jarrah bearers sourced from an 1800's Ballantynes Shop in Timaru, New Zealand.

Recorded live at Roihuvuoren Rio in Helsinki, Finland on June 6th, 2026 by Viljami Valldén, with special thanks to Juuso Paaso and everyone at Rio. Mixed and mastered at White Room in Tartu, Estonia by Asko-Romé Altsoo. Cover photo by Matti Suuronen. Design by Siret Roots.

"Trad.alt.blues" In Stock!

The CD edition of "Trad.alt.blues" is out and in the stores, at least in Estonia, and it's also digitally available now via Amazon, iTunes, Deezer etc. The day before the release, Kuma Raadio's Andres Põllu did a 30-minute phone interview with Andres Roots about the record and proceeded to play and discuss the whole album track by track on his "Üheplaadilaulud" show, using descriptions such as "Bo Diddley meets The Shadows" (yes, that would have been "Pärnu Hambone"). With Raul Terep currently out of the country, there aren't any Roots & Terep gigs scheduled before September - but there will be some then, and a tour of Finland is also being booked for February 2015...

Tonight, however, Andres Roots & Peeter Piik will be jamming at Power Camp 2014 in Annimatsi, Otepää - the annual American cars event where the Bullfrog Brown story started 14 years ago.

Christmas News

All right, as it's nearly Christmas and everybody and his cousin are flogging their albums 24/7, let's get it over with - here's what critics have said about the latest Andres Roots Roundabout release "Three!":

"An absolute must to discover...the best instrumental album in years." - Rootstime (Belgium)

"Takes what you thought about the Blues to a whole new level." - Blues Underground Network (Canada)

"A creative album full of surprises." - BluesMagazine (The Netherlands)

"A joyous album fit for dancing." - Soul Bag (France)

"One of the most entertaining and versatile instrumental albums... and not just for guitar players." - Wasser-Prawda (Germany)

"The blues of Andres Roots are always a joy to hear." - Muusika (Estonia)

And you can find it on iTunes, Spotify etc. or order a hard-copy version here: international orders / local orders. Thank you and Merry Christmas! :)

News: Gigs in Scotland!

But first, a quick update on the "Three!" album: it made 'CD of the week' on "een uurtje van NiX"/ EnschedeFM in the Netherlands while Andres ended up as 'artist of the month' in the Estonian fashion magazine "Mood". In Germany, the "Wasser-Prawda" webzine calls the album "one of the most entertaining and versatile instrumental albums... and not just for guitar players." And Andres' lengthy live interview for Estonian national broadcasting's classical music station Klassikaraadio can be heard and downloaded here for another week.

OK: the real news is that on Wednesday, September 11th, Andres Roots, Steve Lury and Peeter Piik will play a show at the Slouch in Glasgow with Craig Hughes, followed by three nights at the Shetland Blues Festival: September 13th in Unst, 14th in Vidlin, and 15th in Lerwick. That is the "most northerly blues festival" in the UK, as close to Norway as it is to Scotland, so don't miss this! :)
