"Afternoon" Reviewed in Poland

Last fall's "Afternoon" EP was reviewed in the spring edition of Poland's Twoj Blues magazine. Robert Lenert writes: "The acoustic guitar has no secrets in the hands of this musician. Andres is a full-fledged virtuoso... Although the songs are instrumental, there is no question of them being boring or monotonous." He also notes that "despite the "roots" tone of the music itself, its production is very clear and contemporary" - dziękuję bardzo! :)

In the February issue of the UK's Blues Matters! magazine, Iain Patience reviews the "Tartu Lockdown" album, calling it "an interesting exploration of down-home recording that seems to mix downtown home-porch styles with raggedy juke joint sounds": "Roots brings his fine fretwork and quality to the mix with an air of excitement and experience that should work well for those who prefer their blues to be both experimental without straying too far from the traditional path and raw-edged."

In Finland's Blues News magazine that same month, Honey Aaltonen discusses the "Afternoon" EP: "Virtuosically working his acoustic guitar, Andres Roots' music gets more stylish by the year. But don't worry, it's still the blues!"

Christophe Mourot has labelled Andres Roots' "Afternoon" EP "pure acoustic pleasure" in the French Soul Bag magazine: "No one mixes worlds like him, merging blues and classical music and thereby giving astonishing life to certain titles such as the superb "Bye Bye Berry" that combines ancient and modern blues with classical or Spanish phrases." Hot Kommunist's Mikko Nissinen has reviewed "Afternoon" for Finland's Noise.fi webzine, introducing Roots as "Tartu's blue-tuned gift to the North", describing his guitar playing as "steady rolling, airy and elegant", and singling out Roots' Peter Green tribute "Blues on Green" as an "entertaining earworm". And as is becoming strangely customary when speaking of this all-acoustic EP, Led Zeppelin gets a mention - read the whole thing HERE!

On January 28th, Andres Roots will kick off the season and the long-overdue "Afternoon" launch shows with an acoustic solo set at the Antsla cultural centre - as part of the new Antsla Acoustic concert series. Check out the event HERE!

The "Afternoon" EP was the 15th most-played album on British blues radio in December - check out the Independent Blues Broadcasters Association Top 40 below!

The CD EP includes six acoustic instrumentals recorded on October 19th, 2021 by Jaan Tamm and mastered by Asko-Romé Altsoo at White Room in Tartu, Estonia. The cover painting was created by Siret Roots, who also designed the sleeve and took the photo on the back. You can listen to the opening number "Years Past Midnight" below.
